Recently, I heard Miss Kansas speaking to a group of students. She talked about helping others and doing a deed of kindness for someone else. I immediately thought of my neighbor’s daughter who has been sick for a couple of days. I was so inspired by the thought of how easy doing a deed was that I made some soup and took it to the little girl. Also, I brought her a tiara and an autographed picture of Miss Kansas. Her eyes lit up! I think it made her day and it definitely made mine!

Leon was nice enough to switch quite a few of his late days so that I can attend class. Thanks Leon! I really appreciate it!

I try to do things for people as I go along so I’ve thought all week about how to do something different and put my card in circulation…

I donated several coats to our church to be sent to an Indian reservation in South Dakota. I gave the card to someone in the church office and explained what we were doing and asked that they pass the card along to the next person.

My co-worker had someone driving their vehicle call and was involved in an accident on their way to our employment. I helped her with driving her where she needed to go from our job.

I recently had a friend who had a bad mishap in Chicago and had to move. I gave him our spare room to use and provide him with food and shelter while he is trying to get his life back together.

I attend college with several young adults that struggle to stay above the poverty level. While speaking with one student and his wife one night, we began to fantasize about the riches that await us further on in our careers. His biggest roadblock, he said, happened to be his ragged appearance. He only owned two pairs of pants, both of which were old, faded, ragged at the cuffs, and often dirty. Later that week I brought him 10 pairs of jeans that no longer fit me, all almost brand new. In addition to the jeans, I also threw in 3 pairs of dress slacks to wear for the imminent job interview in his future.

Simply smile to anyone, a friendly look instead of giving them a nasty look. Maybe, his/her day gets better by your smile and It doesn’t cost anything. A good deed simply can be a big SMILE, a positive sign…..and if we all smile, the world will be a better place.

I was shopping at Dillon’s Marketplace in Andover, KS a couple weeks ago today about 8-9 PM. A nice couple older than myself were buying red grapes which is all they had to purchase. They finished their transaction and the clerk turned her attention toward me and asked for my Dillon’s Shopper Card. I handed it to her about that time she handed it back to me and I was putting it back in my wallet, the lady that was ahead of me said, “Don’t worry we got this for you!” It took me totally by surprise since I wasn’t paying much attention and thought they had went on. I asked her, “Excuse me?” and she restated herself to me. She added, “This is how we show God’s love. Have a good evening!” and they were off. I stood there with my mouth hanging open as I obligingly said loud enough “Thank You and God bless you both!” It was very heartfelt and touching to me. Never in my mother’s lifetime when I told her of this has this happened to anyone in her 70+ years. Pay It Forward!! There are good people still out there and should be recognized!! Have Faith in mankind!! These people did this as a random act of kindness! It does exist out there and definitely restored my faith in people once again! Who ever you both are…Many Thanks to you both! This will be shared with those reunion goers at my 25th Class Reunion for Augusta Senior High School this coming weekend as well! Let’s keep Paying It Forward and show everyone that caring people still exist in life!

A weekend in April several years ago my wife and I with our 4 and 10 yr old boys took a drive to St. Paul Kansas. (120 miles east of Wichita) in search of history about my Great Grandma’s family that was raised on a farm near Walnut, KS. We stopped and ate a meal at the only resturant in St. Paul. We get up to leave and go to pay for the meal. The waitress says the gentleman that was leaving as we were arriving had paid for our meal with a $50 bill. This was our first time ever visiting St. Paul. Gave us a great feeling about this small town. To the world you are 1 person. But to 1 person you can be the world.

I meet a one legged man in our local gas station who was hot, sweaty, and tired. After talking to him I found out he had walked there from a town 20 miles away and was trying to buy a bus ticket home. He was 28 dollars short and was about to start walking some more. I bought the ticket from the clerk and went out to give it to him. He begain to cry and thank me so much I started to cry as well. He got to go home.

Several of our neighbors are elderly. When it snows my son always scoops their walks and driveways. Sometimes he grumbles, but always does the work. this summer he helps trim our 80 + neighbors yard. they still mow themselves, but trimming is hard. My son enjoys helping our and on occasion benefits from sweets baked by the wonderful neighbors. Guess they both profit. Smiles all around.

The stories here are universal. I’ve not only submitted a deed, but also shared this site with people in other counties, states, and countries. Humankind has created too many borders to effect exclusion; thanks to all here for helping the world move beyond them! May your ripples become waves!

One day I was in the drive-up lane at a fast food restaurant and when I reached the window, I was told the car in front of me paid for my order. Knowing how much this random act brightened my day, I began to do it (particularly if the vehicle behind me looks like it is driven by someone having a tough day, on fixed income, or a college student. Instantly makes us both feel better!

I remember once I was in wal-mart and we just bought the kids a big blue bouncy ball. I got out into the parking lot, a huge gust of wind blew the ball outta my car…and I took off running after it…but it was just going to darn fast. There was a car leaving wal-mart they seen me running after it…he stopped and the passenger got out of the car chased it down for me, and then gave me the ball. It was sooooo sweet. He was so nice, just a 17 year old boy (or around that age) So I was able to take the ball home so the kids could play with it, which wouldnt have happened if he wasnt there. THANX!

I found that this is a good way to put a huge smile on a busy persons face.

When there is a red light and the traffic is backed up soooo much and you see somebody is trying to make a right turn…STOP! and let them turn in. It makes you feel good, it helps them out…becuase 5 oclock traffic sometimes it takes forever to get onto the road from certain stores, and it just speeds things along. Plus other people see you doing it, and probably havnt even thought about doing it…so then they start doing it also.

Late this evening we heard our elderly neighbor’s security alarm go off. We called to check on them. Thankfully everything was alright. They could not figure out how to reset their alarm. We were able to coach them over the phone and got their system back on.

I have psoriasis. It’s a non-terminal, noncommunicable inflammatory disorder of the immune system. For a lot of people, it results in large patches of scaly, painful skin and for some psoriatic arthritis.

Psoriasis is a largely unknown, misunderstood disorder and many new sufferers turn to the Facebook page of the National Psoriasis Foundation with questions when they are first diagnosed. I help by posting encouraging advice about various treatments and relate, as best I can, to their struggles.

Heartspring is a school in East Wichita that specializes in educating people with developmental disabilities. It was a pleasure to help them kick off their Lights on the Lake fundraiser by playing piano at their party, pro bono.

They invited me back for next year’s event and I’m really looking forward to it!
