You know how all those crummy little things that happen can begin to snowball? My “snowball” landed in a flooded basement this week! In the words of the immortal Shirley Temple: “Oh. My. Goodness.” By yesterday afternoon, I was running out of rope.
In between crises, had to make a quick grocery store run and decided to grab a box of fresh donuts. On the way home, I stopped in our neighborhood fire station and left the donuts with the guys to say thank you. You see, my mother — who is in her nineties and has a myriad of “old-age” health problems — lives with me and I am her sole caregiver. As careful as she is, occasionally she does fall, and I’ve had to call the EMTs to come pick her up and check her out They’ve been fabulous, treating her with dignity, respect and good humor.
They seemed thrilled with the surprise “treats.” And I left with a new spring in my step … and a much improved attitude!

I was having an especially lousy day and I left work for lunch. I went to a fast food place and bought the lady’s lunch in the car behind me. Felt GREAT the rest of the day knowing I did something nice for nothing in return.
