Hospital Gift Bag

My mother-in-law was in the hospital just before Chirstmas. We met a family that had been in the family ICU waiting room for many weeks with their daughter who was in the burn unit. They had spent long nights and weeks in the hospital praying for their daughters recovery. I made a gift bag of munchies, cards and word search books for my family who was also staying while taking turns with my mother-in-law in ICU. I made a large gift bag of food items, playing cards, puzzles, word search books, etc for this family also and left it for them along with my name, phone number and e-mail address. Although I had only met them a few times, I could feel their love for their daughter and knew this was now their home away from home, and wanted to make it better and wrap my arms around them. It did not take much, but the phone call from them thanking me was emotional for both families. Do the Deed.

Great story! …..most people don’t realize how slow time passes when you’re in the hospital. I’m trying to get a project going in Kansas for children in the hospital. It’s called the Big Fun Box (http://www.thebigfunbox.org/). It was started by a boy who spent a lot of time in the hospital. Him and his mom came up with the idea of having puzzle books, cards, and other items for kids to do to entertain themselves when in the hospital. Thanks for your encouraging story of helping others. Hopefully, it will encourage others to do the same. If you have any ideas, please email me at bkohrs@sbcglobal.net. I’ve also submitted a story about the Big Fun Boxes on this website.

Have a great week!!!

Nice study, I just handed this onto a pal who was undertaking some research on that. And he in fact bought me lunch since I found it for him smile So permit me rephrase that: Thanks for lunch!
